Synthetic grass that has been urinated on repeatedly by your pets is likely to start smelling strongly, especially on hot or humid days. Why? Because the uric acid crystals (which are the source of the urine smell) are activated and release the odour.
Urine tends to seep through the synthetic grass, into the rock and sand base. When urine dries, it crystalises and it is these uric acid crystals that are difficult to remove.
Conventional cleaners and water will not break down the non-soluble uric acid crystals and they will remain. Only a bio-enzymatic formulation like the one found in urineFREE will remove uric acid crystals for good. urineFREE’s bio-enzymatic action is designed to “eat” these crystals along with the water soluble components of urine.

Maximise results by treating during the evening when the sun is down, especially during hot summer days.
Do not treat the lawn on hot days when the sun is up, as it will cause urineFREE to dry too quickly, reducing its effectiveness.

If you are able to, gently pull back the synthetic grass layer in a few areas to spray product directly onto the crush rock and sand base, as well as underneath the synthetic grass mat.
If other chemical and detergent based products have been used prior to urineFREE, hose out as much as possible with clean water, let air dry and then apply urineFREE.

Saturate the grass with urineFREE so it penetrates into the drainage holes where the urine has seeped, to best remove the underlying urine odour.
urineFREE must come into contact with all the urine to be 100% effective.
urineFREE requires dwell time to do its job. Allow the area to stay wet with urineFREE as long as possible.
You can use a plastic sheet to cover the synthetic grass during treatments to keep urineFREE moist and working for as long as possible (1 hour to overnight).
After the first application, allow to air dry, then hose down the grass to remove the residue from the biological activity.
Repeat applications may be necessary, especially on older urine stains. The sniff test will tell you when you’re done!
Our probiotic cleaner is different than just any other enzymatic urine cleaner, as these only contain enzymes, not live bacteria. urineFREE contains both. Enzymes alone only really do half the job, whereas bacteria are smart enough to keep working until all uric acid crystals (the source of the smell) are gone.
Urine consists of urea, urochrome and uric acid crystals. Most general cleaners only remove the water soluble components of urine (urea and urochrome) but leave behind the non-water soluble uric acid crystals that retain the strong urine odour. These crystals attach to surfaces and are very difficult to dislodge. Humidity, especially when combined with heat, will trigger the dormant crystals, bringing back the urine smell (hello summer).
